A fabulous first day ☀️
Day 1 of the Mojo Lejog challenge has got off to a wonderful start. All 12 riders started at Land’s End with a picture by the famous sign. Joined by some partners we all greeted each other, enjoyed the sunshine overlooking the sea, smiles and laughs all round.
However, as I started to give a brief update of the day (weather, terrain, group sizes etc) it was clear to see there was fear and trepidation.
This is a huge challenge for everyone. For some of the athletes it’s a bucket list item that’s been waiting for this opportunity for decades.
9 months of hard work and preparation came down to this very moment when we were about to set off on our journey for the first time.
We split into 4 groups and were soon off, photos and videos, cheers and good lucks all round.
The sun shone and there was a light tail wind. We wound through quiet road with amazing road surface (thanks Cornwall!) it was almost enough to forget the hills!
The first half slipped along nicely but sadly an error of judgement meant one of our lovely rides had a tumble. As luck would have it she was with our superstar supporter Glyn who was waiting in a lay-by to resupply suncream and snacks.
Dusted off and back on the road in no time, the whole crew were back on the road. The second half of the day included more hills and less tea and scone breaks!
Finally at 86 miles we made it to our accommodation just outside Launston.
We are all sitting down together as a team tonight for dinner and I handed out the team hoodies.
After snaffling as many carbs and protein items as we can we will head to bed to recover ready for another day. Tomorrow looks to be a bit damp! Plus we have 111 miles to do from Cornwall, through Devon and into Somerset by the end of the day!
A valiant effort all round and a big day of hills ticked off. Cornwall you were wonderful. But the starts of the show were these amazing ladies.
Goodnight
